Former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins players Robert Bortuzzo and Oskar Sundqvist have laid claim to the Stanley Cup as members of the St. Louis Blues.

The Blues captured the NHL’s championship for the first time in their 51 year existence with a  4-1 win over the Boston Bruins in Game Seven on Wednesday night.

Bortuzzo appeared in 17 playoff games during the Blues’ Cup run, recording two goals.  Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round of the 2007 NHL Draft, Bortuzzo spent parts of four seasons (2009-13) with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting 54 points (10+44) in 236 games with the team.

Sundqvist appeared in 25 postseason games with St. Louis, posting nine points (4+5).  Drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round of 2012, Sundqvist recorded 63 points (25+38) in 108 regular season games with Wilkes-Barre from (2015-17).

The Blues had two other Penguins connections as well.  Chris Thorburn spent the postseason with the Blues’ ‘Black Aces’, after appearing in one regular season contest with the team.  He suited up for three games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2006-07.

And former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward Joe Vitale (2008-11), a St. Louis native, was the color commentator on Blues broadcasts for KMOX radio.
