Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lights the net on fire in two road wins
Penguins (2-1-1-0) tally 13 goals, including 12 straight, in visits to Hartford and Providence
Weekly Rewind
Saturday, Oct. 10 – PENGUINS 7 at Hartford 1
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton picked up its first win of the season in style, spoiling Hartford’s home opener with seven unanswered goals. The onslaught started early in the second period and never relented, as the Black and Gold notched their seven tallies in 21:18 of game time. The Penguins swept the three stars with a trio of three-point performers: Bill Zonnon (2G-1A), Caleb Jones (3A) and Avery Hayes (1G-2A).
Saturday, Oct. 11 – PENGUINS 6 at Providence 2
The Penguins continued their torrid pace from fewer than 24 hours prior, burying two goals in all three periods. Rutger McGroarty had a career day by posting four points (2G-2A). Taylor Gauthier also set an AHL-career-best mark with 39 saves. The captain, Phil Kemp, started the scoring just 1:57 into the contest. Oliver Okuliar rounded out the Penguins’ offense with his first goal in a Penguins uniform midway through the third period. Both defenseman Ilya Solovyov and Lucas Ciona appeared in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton debuts.
The Week Ahead
Friday, Oct. 16 – PENGUINS at Cleveland
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will attempt to maintain its winning ways when it travels to Cleveland for back-to-back games against the Monsters. Last year, the Penguins split their season series with the Monsters at two wins apiece. However, the Penguins have fared well historically against Cleveland with an all-time record of 23-6-5-0 (.750).
Saturday, Oct. 17 – PENGUINS at Cleveland
Like Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Cleveland has managed 17 goals in its first 14 games. However, it has also allowed 15 goals. The Monsters are off to a 3-1-0-0 start. They dropped their opener to Grand Rapids, but have since won three straight by scoring five goals in each of the three victories.
