Penguins return home for pair of weekend contests

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (3-2-1-0) won three of four away games during recent road swing

Weekly Rewind

Friday, Oct. 16 – PENGUINS 2 at Cleveland 4
Avery Hayes scored 58 seconds into the game, but a swift answer from Cleveland knotted things up. Hayes regained the lead for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with his second goal of the night, but once again, the Monsters responded to make it 2-2 before the second intermission. Cleveland pulled ahead in the third period, then sealed the win with a late empty netter.

Saturday, Oct. 17 – PENGUINS 6 at Cleveland 3
The Penguins and Monsters met for a rematch the following afternoon. This time, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton came out on top after going 4-for-8 on the power play in a penalty-filled affair. Hugh McGing tallied his first goal in Black and Gold early in the opening frame, followed by Hayes’ third goal of the weekend. Melvin Fernström and Rutger McGroarty both found twine in the second period, and Mikhail Ilyin opened the third with his fourth point of the day (1G-3A). McGroarty put the cherry on top of the Penguins’ bounce-back victory by notching a second man-advantage marker with 11.7 seconds left.
