Wilkes-Barre/Scranton can clinch playoff berth as soon as Wednesday

Penguins (35-18-7-1) enter week with win-and-in scenario at home against Hartford

 

Weekly Rewind

Friday, Mar. 21 – PENGUINS 2 vs. Providence 10
Sam Poulin and Boris Katchouk found the net for the Penguins, but Providence racked up 10 goals to take a 3-0 lead in their season series.

Saturday, Mar. 22 – PENGUINS 3 vs. Hershey 2 (OT)
An epic battle ended with Avery Hayes winning the game in overtime on STAR WARS Night. Atley Calvert provided both of the team’s goals in regulation. Sergei Murashov made 24 saves, improving his record to 10-0-0.

Sunday, Mar. 23 – PENGUINS 5 at Bridgeport 2
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton deployed a four-goal first period to sink the Islanders on Sunday afternoon. Poulin, Matt Nieto, Valtteri Puustinen and Katchouk all lit the lamp in the opening frame. Chase Stillman tacked on his first goal as a Penguin during the second frame for insurance.

The Week Ahead

Wednesday, Mar. 26 – PENGUINS vs. Hartford
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton can clinch a berth in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs on Wednesday, but will need to sweep its season series with Hartford to do so. The Penguins are 5-0-0-0 against the Wolf Pack this season, out-scoring them 24-5.

Saturday, Mar. 29 – PENGUINS at Charlotte
The Penguins and Checkers go head-to-head for a pivotal two-game set at Bojangles’ Coliseum. The two teams are separated by two points in the Atlantic Division standings. Charlotte has won four of the previous six meetings this season.

Sunday, Mar. 30 – PENGUINS at Charlotte
The Penguins finish their two-game set in the Queen City with a Sunday matinée. Charlotte’s Rasmus Asplund leads all skaters in the season series with seven points (2G-5A) in six games.

Ice Chips

– Clinching a postseason berth would mark the Penguins’ 20th appearance in Calder Cup Playoffs.

– Wilkes-Barre/Scranton leads the Eastern Conference in goals per game (3.51), which also ranks third in the league.

– Sergei Murashov’s 10-game win streak set the Penguins franchise record for a longest streak by a rookie, eclipsing Matt Murray’s nine-game streak in 2014-15.

– Murashov is one victory shy of tying John Curry (2008-09) for the longest winning streak in team history.

– Sam Poulin is on a four-game point streak and has amassed 12 points (5G-7A) in his last seven games.
