During his tenure with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, MacDonald demonstrated his coaching prowess by steering the team to an impressive season. The Fighting Saints clinched the best record in the USHL’s Eastern Conference, culminating in a remarkable 41-13-8 performance in the regular season and securing the USHL Eastern Conference championship during the intense Clark Cup Playoffs.

Before his notable stint with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, MacDonald made his mark in the hockey world through an eight-season tenure with the Reading Royals of the ECHL. As a forward, MacDonald graced the ice in numerous AHL games, donning jerseys for esteemed teams like the Albany River Rats, Providence Bruins, Iowa Chops, and Houston Aeros. Throughout his professional playing career, MacDonald amassed an impressive 106 points, comprising 45 goals and 61 assists, highlighting his scoring prowess and invaluable contributions on the ice.
