The WBS Penguins have had a long-standing rivalry with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. It began when the latter was named the Philadelphia Phantoms. It’s one of the most talked about rivalries in the AHL. While the regular WBS Penguins matchups with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms have been a treat for fans, their playoff games have often turned intense.
The first WBS Penguins playoff game with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, then known as the Philadelphia Phantoms, was in the 2000-01 season. The deep-seated hostility between the teams became evident in this playoff match. The WBS Penguins won this match 4-2, which cleared their path for the Calder Cup finals.
The teams met again in the playoffs of the 2003-04 season. Yet again, the WBS Penguins beat the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 4-2. Both teams have faced each other four times in the playoffs, with the WBS Penguins winning three games.

The two consecutive WBS Penguins matchups with the then Senators took place in the first round of playoffs for the 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons.
