WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Joel Blomqvist will represent the Atlantic Division at the upcoming 2024 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Tech CU in San Jose, California.

Blomqvist, who turned 22-years-old today, currently leads the Penguins with 11 wins on the season. The rookie also ranks fifth overall among goalies in goals against average (2.16) and fifth in save percentage (.920).

A second-round pick (52nd overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Blomqvist earns his All-Star selection while in the midst of a five-game winning streak. The native of Uusikaarlepyy, Finland has only allowed one goal in each of those five victories.

Blomqvist marks the seventh Penguins goalie to be named to the AHL All-Star Classic. Previous Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton netminders to be bestowed the honor were Dany Sabourin (2006), John Curry (2011), Jeff Zatkoff (2015), Matt Murray (2016), Tristan Jarry (2017) and Casey DeSmith (2018). Only Blomqvist and Murray were named All-Stars in their rookie seasons.

The 2024 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Tech CU will take place at  Tech CU Arena, home of the San Jose Barracuda, on Sunday, Feb. 4 and Monday, Feb. 5. The two-day showcase includes the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, followed by the AHL All-Star Challenge on Monday.
